I have a Japanese SAMURAI sword from World War 2 that was used in battle of okinawa. How much is it worth?
My grandfather was a Marine in Okinawa japan. His unit was one of the first to land in Okinawa. He brought back my items from the war including 2 japanese samurai swords both used in combat. I know they are extremely rare due to towards the end of the war the japanese started melting the down for the steel. Well my father has one and I have one. The one I have has a heavy metal sheath and a locking mechanism to keep the blade in the sheath and it has a wrapped ray skin handle. small amount of ware and rust but not bad at all. how much are they worth?
Lets just say I know how he obtained both of them and belive me my grandfather was not going to wright it down. But i do know the story on at least one of them and im sure someone in my family knows the story one the other one.
If you really want to know, there are several organizations from Japan that attempt to buy family blades back from foreigners to be returned to Japan. Think of them as subject matter experts. If you have a blade worth anything as an heirloom, they would be the ones to tell you. And offer you top dollar as well.
If what you have is a standard military issue blade it’s still worth something, but that depends more on open market prices and what you can provide for documentation. Any sort of written account by your grandfather telling the story of how he obtained the blades would add a lot to the value.
Good Luck.
